Pump Operation

Pump Operation

  • Before starting the Pump check the insulation resistance of the winding which should be at least one mega ohm.
  • Check the Voltage, Frequency and Phase to be in line with the details mentioned on the name plate.
  • Check for ground wire in the cable supplied with Pump is tightly earthed with metal screw.
  • Check for proper fitting of Hose pipes with suitable clamps.
  • To avoid any loss in discharge, the check delivery hose is free from sharp and acute bends.
  • Pump must be lifted or moved by using lifting Hooks/D shackles/chains only, not by means of cable.
  • While starting the Pump, shall make a Knock which is opposite to direction of rotation of impeller and make sure Knock is in right direction as per name plate arrow affixed on pump. (Change R and Y phases if the Knock is wrong for phase reversal).
  • Don't run the Pump dry unnecessarily, however Pump will not detriment or suffer any ill effects if it is run for less than up to 20 minutes.
  • We developed pumps for working in fluids where P/H value ranges from 5 to 8.
  • The pump should be Maximum 15 Meter inside the water from water level for good performance.

Pump Troubleshooting

Pump gives less discharge

Cause
  • Wrong rotation of impeller
  • Wear out of Wear Parts
  • Small dia. hose and length of hose.
  • Too high-pressure head.
  • Damage in hose pipe
  • Leakage/broken outlet
Remedy
  • Change the two phases
  • Replace wear parts
  • Check pressure losses.
  • Use Pumps in Tandem
  • Change Hose Pipe
  • Replace gasket/outlet

Pump starts but stops

Cause
  • Impeller blocked
  • Wrong rotation of Impeller
  • Wrong connection
  • Voltage fluctuations
  • Clogged Strainer
  • Dry running
  • Water temperature is high
Remedy
  • Clean bottom parts
  • Change the two phases
  • Check and reconnect
  • Contact Power Supply Co.
  • Clean strainer
  • Switch off power
  • Switch off power

Pump does not start

Cause
  • Blown of fuses
  • Damaged Cable
  • No Power Supply
  • Impeller Blocked
  • Winding Burnt
Remedy
  • Replace fuses
  • Replace or shorten cable
  • Check supply
  • Clean at bottom
  • Replace winding/Rewind

Pump Maintenance

Preliminary checks for submersible pumps

  • Check Physical appearance of pump along with the cable supplied
  • Check Insulation resistance and it should be more than 200 M ohm.
  • Check whether your pump is installed and protected by control panel.
  • Check Contactor of your control panel and clean periodically.
  • Check whether stable voltage and frequency available at source and operate pump at rated Voltage and frequency.
  • Physically check jamming of wet end parts to avoid motor Overload and Heating.
  • Check for No Leakage in piping system.
  • Trained site personnel for Pump operation and preventive maintenance of pumps.

Having backup plan for your pump?

  • Ensure pump is protected by control panel to avoid pump failure.
  • If organization does not work on module of one working and one stand by pump for operation, at least ensure important spare parts are readily available at site.
  • Always have Audit of all electrical items so that data based is maintained by organization for easy identification / tracing of equipment's.
  • Instead of using single pump for operation it is always advisable to distribute the load to multiple pumps, which in time always help in breakdown time and pumping operation will not be hampered.
  • It is always advisable to give on-site training to skill labor in return help to optimum utilization of resources.

Points to remember for Corrective maintenance of submersible pumps

  • Check Physical appearance of pump.
  • Disconnect all electrical connection supplied to pump.
  • Identify Malfunctioning area (i.e. Worn out of impeller, Wearing ring, wear plate, diffuser, pump casing, Bearing Noise, Oil Leakage etc.)
  • Ensure all genuine spare parts are used against replacement of worn out parts to attend maximum output from pump.
  • Use proper tools for reassembly of parts.
  • In case the site at remote area, pump should be sent to nearest authorized service Centre for proper assembling of pump.
  • Mandatory replacement of all "O" Rings and gaskets compulsory for proper sealing of submersible pumps.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are in placed after assembling the pumps for checks.
  • Ensure that pump is protected by control panel.
